About JustMorriz

JustMorriz is a modern app for Nine Men's Morris (also known as Mill, Mühle, Molino, Merels) — one of the oldest board games in the world, played for well over two thousand years. It is made by Lumevo Lab and is available for iPhone, iPad, Android and in the browser.

What you can play

The rules in short

  1. Placing. Each player has nine pieces and places them one at a time on the empty points of the board.
  2. Moving. Once all pieces are on the board, players slide a piece along a line to an adjacent empty point.
  3. Mills. Line up three of your pieces on a line and you form a mill: you then remove one of your opponent's pieces.
  4. Flying. When you are down to three pieces, you may move a piece to any free point on the board.
  5. Winning. You win when your opponent is reduced to two pieces or has no legal move left.

The full rules are also inside the app, under Instructions on the home screen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Getting started

Do I need an account to play?

No. You can start playing straight away as a guest. A guest profile lives only on that one device, though — if you log out, reinstall the app or switch phone, that profile (nickname, rating, progress) is gone for good.

To keep it safe, open Settings and link an account with Google, Apple or email. Nothing is lost when you link: your existing profile is simply attached to the account.

How do I sign in?

JustMorriz supports email and password, Sign in with Google, Sign in with Apple, and guest play. The app remembers the email address you used last, so on the next launch you land on the right tab with the address already filled in.

I forgot my password.

On the login screen, choose the email tab and use the password reset option: you will receive a reset link at that address. If the email doesn't arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder, and make sure you are using the exact address you registered with.

Why was I asked about my skill level when I signed up?

That's your placement: it sets your starting rating so your first matches are against opponents of roughly your strength — Beginner starts at 700, Intermediate at 900 and Expert at 1100. After that, your rating moves on its own based on results.

Ratings, ranking and opponents

Why do I have two different ratings?

One rating tracks your games against the AI, the other your online games against real players. They move independently, so a good run offline never inflates your online ranking (and vice versa). Both are shown on your profile card on the home screen.

How strong are the AI levels?

There are five opponents — 500, 700, 900, 1100 and 1300. The 500 level plays deliberately loosely and is a fair fight for a complete beginner; 1300 searches deep and rarely gives anything away. The home screen also suggests the level that best matches your current rating.

How does the leaderboard work?

The leaderboard ranks players by their online rating. Only players with an account appear there, and results are recorded on our servers when an online match ends, so the standings are the same for everyone.

Playing online

Matchmaking can't find an opponent.

Matchmaking pairs you with someone of a similar rating who is looking for a game at the same moment, so at quiet hours the wait can be longer. Check that you have a working internet connection, then leave the search running for a minute or two. You can always play the AI or invite a friend in the meantime.

I lost my connection in the middle of an online match. Did I lose?

Not necessarily. If you get back within the reconnection window, the app puts you straight back into the same game with the position intact. Reopen JustMorriz as soon as you have signal again.

Can I play against a specific friend?

Yes — add them in the Friends section and send an invitation. They receive a notification and, once they accept, the game starts for both of you. You can also block a player there if you would rather not be matched with them again.

I'm not receiving invitation notifications.

Check that notifications are enabled for JustMorriz in your device settings (iOS: Settings → Notifications → JustMorriz; Android: Settings → Apps → JustMorriz → Notifications), that Focus / Do Not Disturb isn't filtering them out, and that battery saving isn't restricting the app in the background.

Profile

Can I change my nickname or avatar?

Yes. Both are in Settings. Nicknames are unique, so if the one you want is already taken you will be asked for another. Avatars are picked from the set included in the app.

I changed phone — how do I get my profile back?

Sign in on the new device with the same account you linked (Google, Apple or email) and your profile follows you. If you were playing as a guest and never linked an account, unfortunately that profile cannot be recovered — guest data never leaves the device it was created on.

How do I delete my account and my data?

Write to info@lumevolab.com from the email address linked to your account (or tell us your nickname if you signed in with Google or Apple) and we will delete the account together with the profile, rating history and leaderboard entry associated with it.

Troubleshooting

The app is slow, stuck, or a screen won't load.

Working through this list solves almost everything:

  1. Fully close the app and reopen it.
  2. Check your internet connection (online play, leaderboard and login all need one).
  3. Make sure you are on the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.
  4. Restart the device.

If it is still there, tell us — see below.

The website version behaves differently from the app.

The browser version is handy for a quick game, but the phone and tablet apps are the primary experience: they get features first and handle notifications and background reconnection properly. If the web version looks out of date, do a hard reload of the page to clear the cached files.

How do I report a bug or suggest a feature?

Email us. Suggestions are genuinely welcome — a good part of what is in the app today came from players writing in.
